Data Storage Converter

Convert digital storage sizes. Decimal units (KB, MB, GB) use powers of 1000; binary units (KiB, MiB, GiB) use powers of 1024 — which is why a '1 TB' drive shows as ~931 GiB.

    FAQ

Why is my 1 TB drive smaller than advertised?

Drives are sold in decimal terabytes (10^12 bytes), but operating systems often report binary tebibytes (2^40 bytes). 1 TB ≈ 0.909 TiB, so a 1 TB drive shows as about 931 GiB.
